Help Name the Alumni Newsletter and... Win an Ipod Nano!

Your new SCNM Alumni Newsletter needs a name. Email your idea for a newsletter name (to alumni@scnm.edu) by May 30th. Finalist will appear in the next issue of the Alumni Newsletter and all alumni will be encouraged to vote on the name of their choice. Only SCNM alumni will be eligible to enter a newsletter name and participate in voting.

The winner will be announced in an upcoming newsletter issue and receive a new Apple Ipod Nano!

SCNM 2006 Alumni Survey

In late summer of 2006 the Alumni Office administered a comprehensive survey to our alumni. We had an overwhelming response rate of 32%. While SCNM has graduated 550 Naturopathic physicians, we have contact information for 425 of you. Out of the 425 physicians/alumni surveyed, 136 (or 32%) responded. Did you know that one of the 50 hottest Latina singles in New York is an SCNM alumna? On February 14, 2007, Dr. Joann Yanez was featured in The New York Post in the section titled Tempo for 50 Latinos Looking for Love. Tempo scoured the city and beyond to find the hottest Latino and Latina singles. The results were displayed in Tempo's second annual list of the fifty sexiest who are unattached and ready for love. We all had an interest in healing or the medical profession, but in each of our cases it was the naturopathic philosophy that first attracted us, and the ability to employ natural therapies to help patients.

What’s Been Happening with Alumni?

World Health Mission in Nigeria

I am Dr. Heidi Weinhold a 2000 graduate of SCNM, who recently traveled to Nigeria in January with the World Health Mission. Our team consisted of myself, Dr. Dan Wagner, a pharmacist from Pittsburgh, and Danielle Wagner, a laboratory scientist. Our trip to Nigeria, West Africa was a success. Part of our mission was to establish diabetes screening clinics at Lafia, Azara, Jos, Bauchi and Yola across 4 states covering many hundred miles. We screened nearly 2,000 patients, collected data on each, and donated glucose meters, diabetic test strips, medications, herbal, and vitamin supplements...

Discussion

It is our hope to create an Alumni Association for individual classes and other groups of alumni to connect and communicate. A secure bulletin board and online discussion groups will be created for your use via the Jenzabar Internet Campus (JICS) in the near future.

Until a formal Alumni Association can be established, we will be publishing contact information for those consenting former class representatives who agree to serve as liaisons to their classmates on an interim basis.

If you served as your class representative in your final year at SCNM, please contact the Alumni Office at alumni@scnm.edu. Your name, phone number and email address will appear in an upcoming issue of the Alumni Newsletter and be posted in the secure bulletin board for alumni.
