Director of Clinical Operations

Kimberly Volk, N.D., R.N.

Welcome to the Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center. The Medical Center is the training facility for Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine where the student clinicians undergo clinical training during their last two years of study. While it is the basic medical sciences during the first two years that provide the explanatory knowledge and foundation from which physicians are made, it is the clinical science education that nurtures and molds the future physicians.

Naturopathic medicine, as it is practiced within the Medical Center, integrates the principals of Naturopathic medicine into all aspects of patient care, allowing for true healing rather than the palliation of disease. Here, all aspects of the disease process, the physical, the mental-emotional as well as the spiritual, are taken into consideration when assessing the patient. Treatment is prescribed with the evaluation of the disease’s presentation by that individual patient, rather than the disease itself. The patient always remains the focus for treatment, not the disease, allowing for the restoration of the individual’s health.

Naturopathic student clinicians are prepared at the Medical Center to become primary care physicians who provide a wide variety of medical services encompassing a variety of treatment options such as homeopathy, botanical medicine, acupuncture, detoxification, hydrotherapy, physical medicine, nutrition pharmacotherapy, and minor surgery. Patient education about the disease process, disease prevention and wellness programs are an integral part of the healing experience at the Medical Center.

The Medical Center is staffed by more than 30 clinicians who, combined, offer our patients hundreds of years of experience. Our clinicians hold a variety of degrees such as ND, MD, OMD, DC, PhD, etc. - some clinicians are dual degreed. Many of our physicians are recognized as leaders and educators within their field and provide our students with the expertise, knowledge and guidance that form the foundations of their future practice. Patients at the Medical Center benefit from the experience of their physicians and the attention of their dedicated student clinicians; and are provided the most up-to-date and innovative treatments.

In addition, to our Medical Center, our medical students have the opportunity to work with other medical professionals such as allopathic physicians (MD) and osteopathic physicians (DO) in other medical settings to gain knowledge as to how to integrate the various disciplines and specialties of medicine. SCNM has taken a proactive role in developing a wide variety of community relationships and affiliations that allow us to deliver medical services to a variety of patient populations in the Phoenix-Metro area.

Additional training in post-graduate medical education is available with SCNM’s general medicine residency program, already recognized as being one of the best in natural medicine. We have residencies that also specialize in pediatrics, environmental medicine and homeopathy. Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine graduates are able to distinguish themselves both in their community as well as in the larger medical profession.

By placing an emphasis on quality of patient care, quality in education, high academic standards and professionalism, the Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center is continuing to set the standard for Naturopathic medical education. The future physician is being trained today at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine.

We look forward to seeing you!

Sincerely,

Kimberly Volk, ND, RN
