RESOURCES FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

The Marketing and Public Relations Office offers professional communications counsel to faculty, staff, and members of the College community. We work closely with other offices and departments on campus to gather news and feature stories, and to tell those stories effectively and in a timely manner to the campus community, alumni, media, and the general public. We encourage you to keep our office informed about your projects and news, including faculty and student research, special honors and publications, community projects and visiting speakers.

Publicity:

The Marketing and Public Relations Office issues press releases based on newsworthy events, human interest and trend stories to targeted local, regional and national television, print and radio outlets. All news and information about the College to be released to the media must be coordinated through Marketing and Public Relations.

Depending on the event and lead time, public relations publicity efforts for campus news range from local calendar listings to personal pitches to national reporters. If you are organizing an event that you think would be of interest to the media, contact Salina Bazurto, Marketing and Public Relations Manager, at 480.222.9222 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with the following information:

  • date, time and location of event
  • cost (if any)
  • contact information (to be used in the release and in the papers)
  • short description of program or speaker
  • intended audience (campus community, general public, etc.)

In order for us to most effectively publicize your events, items should be submitted at least three weeks in advance. Four weeks is preferable, as most media outlets require substantial lead times for their own deadlines.

Marketing and Public Relations is also available to help you place your op-eds and letters to the editor in appropriate media outlets. Please contact us for assistance in editing and submitting your piece.

On Campus Publicity:

In addition to media outreach, Marketing and Public Relations can help you publicize your events via www.scnm.edu, the quarterly SCNM Insider newsletter (sent to faculty, staff, alumni, and students), and the SCNM Now Magazine. If you have an event you would like considered for publication, please send details to Salina Bazurto at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Faculty Experts:

Our office is dedicated to highlighting and promoting the wide-ranging expertise of the College’s faculty. We proactively direct members of the media to expert scholars in a variety of fields through regular media advisories and press releases tied to the news of the day. In addition, we respond to media requests by suggesting expert contacts and arranging media interviews.  If your area of expertise currently relates to an issue in the news, please contact our office.

Media Interviews:

We recognize that many faculty members have established relationships with members of the media. If a reporter contacts you directly for comment, please let us know. We actively monitor mentions of Southwest College faculty, staff, students and program in the news. Whenever possible, we include these mentions on the College's homepage.

Additional Resources:

If you don't find the information you need listed above, please call 480.222.9222 and we can direct you to the appropriate contact.
