of London where he earned his Ph.D. in Developmental Biology.
Dr. Farnsworth also received his B.Sc. (Microbiology) from Queen
Elizabeth College, University of London. He has extensive teaching
experience at the University of Texas at San Antonio and believes
that classes should involve analogies and examples that are
relevant to students’ current lives and their future careers
as healers. Dr. Farnsworth currently teaches Microbiology and
Cell Function/Organ System I at SCNM.
Laherty, Richard Associate Professor/Chair of Basic
Science. B.S., M.S., University of San Francisco; Ph.D., University
of California at Berkeley. Dr. Laherty received his B.S. and
M.S. degrees (biology) from the University of San Francisco.
His Ph.D. in human anatomy was awarded by the University of
California, Berkeley. His research interest in reproductive
endocrinology led him to the Reproductive Endocrinology Center,
in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, at the University
of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine.
He served on the faculties of the School of Dentistry and the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, teaching histology, gross anatomy, and neuroanatomy. He next served on the faculty of Indiana University School of Medicine, where he taught histology and did research in reproductive endocrinology and on the endocrine regulation of the immune system. From there Dr. Laherty moved to Kentucky, where he was on the faculty of the University of Kentucky, before settling in Arizona. Dr. Laherty teaches Gross Human Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, and Endocrinology.
Lasku, Arben Associate Professor. As a graduate from University of Tirana, Albania. Dr. Lasku received his M.S. (clinical chemistry), M.D., Ph.D. (tumor markers) from the University of Tirana, Albania. He completed a specialization in nuclear medicine at the University of Genoa Medical Center, Italy. He has trained in clinical chemistry, clinical pathology, and nuclear medicine and has been a member of the faculty of the University of Tirana, Albania. Dr. Lasku currently teaches human pathology, laboratory diagnosis, and immunology at SCNM.

and neuro anatomy. Dr. Richards received the Ph.D. in anatomy
from the University of Michigan in 1971 and did post doctoral
training at the National Institute of Health and Damon Runyon
Memorial Fund for Cancer Research. Following a teaching and
research career at Oregon Health Sciences University, Dr. Richards
obtained the D.C. degree and practiced in Beaverton, Oregon.
He is an outstanding teacher having received distinguished teaching
awards in 1985, 1986 and 1988 at Oregon Health Sciences University.
Wollner, Debra Associate Professor. B.A., University
of California at San Diego; Ph.D., University of Washington.
An Associate Professor of Physiology and Pharmacology, Dr. Wollner
teaches physiology, endocrinology, pharmacology and research,
and serves as Chair of the Southwest College Institutional Review
Board (IRB). She received her doctorate in Pharmacology from
the University of Washington in 1987. She performed postdoctoral
research in the Department of Cell Biology at New York University
School of Medicine, the Institute for Cancer Research at the
Fox Chase Cancer Center, and the Department of Molecular and
Cellular Physiology at Stanford University Medical Center. She
has published her research on the development of epithelial
polarity, cellular adhesion, and the diversity of the voltage
sensitive sodium channel, work that was funded by the NSF, the
NIH and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She currently serves
as Chair of the Southwest College Institutional Review Board
(IRB).
Waters, Robert Professor/Chair of Research. B.A, Carroll
College; Ph.D., Montana State University. Robert F. Waters,
PhD earned his doctorate in genetics with graduate minors in
biochemistry and statistics from Montana State University in
1974. Postdoctoral training and a faculty appointment were added
at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. Research duties
at KSU included radioactive tracing of DNA involving intergeneric
hybridization. During his tenure at Kansas State, Dr. Waters
had the privilege of working with the Nobel Prize Laureate,
Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, in genetics with CIMMYT near Mexico City
(Toluca) and Ciudad Obregon in Sonora, Mexico.
Following Kansas State University, Dr. Waters received extensive training in computer science, communications and programming from IBM, DEC and many other companies. In computer science he consulted with CAPLAMAR in Mexico City and British Petroleum in London. With his varied background he designed, developed and implemented an extensive emergency medial software system, and was a co-principle investigator for a multi-million dollar federal DOT/NHTSA grant to rewrite the EMT basic curriculum.
