Dr. Laherty began his studies at the University of San Francisco, where he obtained a B.S. and M.S. in Biology, and continued his education at the University of California, Berkeley where he received his Ph.D in Anatomy in 1978. Upon receiving a NIH Individual Postdoctoral Research Service Award, he became a postdoctoral fellow at the Reproductive Endocrinology Center in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.
Dr. Laherty brings more than four decades of teaching experience to SCNM, serving at such institutions as University of California Berkeley; University of California, San Francisco; Indiana State University and Hazard Community College in Kentucky. In addition to being a member of the American Association of Anatomists and The Endocrine Society, he was a National Science Foundation Grant Reviewer in 1985 and a founding faculty associate at the Interdisciplinary Center for Cell Products and Technologies at Indiana State University. Dr. Laherty has given lectures at seminars and published articles in numerous journals focusing on reproduction and hormonal function. He joined the faculty at SCNM in 1996 and became Chair of the Department of Basic Sciences in 1997. Dr. Laherty teaches Regional Anatomy I & II (ANAT 603, ANAT 604), Neuroanatomy (ANAT 627), and Endocrinology (PHYS 612).
