Dr. Nick Buratovich, or as he is usually referred to “Dr. Nick”, received his medical training at National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Ore. (1983). He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif. (1973). He was the recipient of the Robert P. Rood Medal as the outstanding pre-medical graduate. Dr. Nick’s academic studies and clinical practice have concentrated in the areas of orthopedics, musculoskeletal disorders and pain management. He has served as president of the Arizona Naturopathic Medical Association (AZNMA), and as Faculty Senate President at SCNM. He currently serves as the secretary of the Southwest College Board of Trustees. Dr. Nick has maintained a private practice in Naturopathic family medicine in the Tempe/Mesa area since 1985. He also serves as a staff clinician supervising student medical rotations at Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center.
Dr. Nick is a founding faculty member at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and is a Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine. Within his department, Dr. Nick teaches the palpation/orthopedic assessment/manipulation sequence of classes. These include: Touch as Treatment (PHMD 605); Introduction to Physical Medicine and Orthopedics (PHMD 710); Naturopathic Manipulative Treatment I --spine (PHMD 740); Naturopathic Manipulative Treatment II--Extremities/viscera (PHMD 770). Dr. Nick also teaches a class in Naturopathic philosophy and practice called Physician Heal Thyself (NTMD 610).
Dr. Nick is the Director of the SCNM Skills Center, providing ongoing directed skill development laboratories (DSDL) to enhance students professional practice skills in the areas of osseous manipulation, injection, infusion and acupuncture.
In addition to his teaching and clinical activities, Dr. Nick is conducting a health services research project to survey the naturopathic professions use of manipulation techniques. He is also a contributing author to two publication projects. He is a lead contributor to the physical medicine chapter for the Foundations of Naturopathic Medicine Textbook project and a chapter contributor to Naturopathic Physical Medicine: Theory and Practice. Both books will be published by the Elsevier publishing company.
