Annual Alumni Awards

Each year at the SCNM Alumni Reunion, two outstanding Naturopathic physicians and SCNM alumni are honored for their dedication, service and contribution to the field of Naturopathic medicine.  To nominate an alumnus for one or both awards, please download the nomination forms below.  The deadline for the annual Honored Alumni Awards is July 10.

SCNM Legacy Award

The Legacy Award recognizes alumni of SCNM who have made major and long lasting contributions to the advancement and development of field of Naturopathic medicine. This award recognizes SCNM alumni who have transcended their fundamental roles as health care providers, scientists and educators to become

Influential participants in the advancement of the art and science of Naturopathic medicine. Excellence in these areas brings pride and distinction to SCNM as well as to natural medicine.

Eligibility: All alumni of SCNM are eligible.

Award Recipient: One award recipient per year will be chosen. Nomination forms can be obtained from the Alumni Office or by clicking the link above.

Review Process: The Alumni Award Review Committee will review and evaluate all nominations and select one award recipient. The Alumni Award Review Committee is comprised of faculty, administrators and one alumni representative.

SCNM Distinguished Service Award

The SCNM Distinguished Service Award recognizes extraordinary service contributions made by an SCNM alumnus directly to SCNM that have significantly enhanced the well-being and reputation of SCNM within Naturopathic medicine and within the community at large. Dr. Paul Mittman will present this award during the annual Alumni Reunion reception. Selection of awardees is based on the following criteria:

  • Outstanding service to SCNM and/or the SCNM community
  • Beneficial service to SCNM students
  • Outstanding service/contribution to the Alumni Office
  • Participation in professional organizations, including holding offices

Honorary Award Recipients:

The 2009 Advancing Naturopathic Medicine Award Recipient – Dr. Bruce Sadilek

Dr. Bradley Smith class of 2000, was awarded the “Advancing Naturopathic Medicine” award for his work as medical director of the Mission of Mercy mobile clinic. Dr. Smith and his integrated medical team see tens of thousands of patients each year. The mobile clinic travels to three sites within the Phoenix Metro area each week providing medical care to indigent men, women and children.

The 2009 Advancing Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine – Dr. Jessica Mitchell

Jessica Mitchell class of 2005, was awarded the “Advancing Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine” award for her work at Hamilton Elementary School. Alongside Dr. Matt Baral, Dr. Mitchell has helped to create the finest naturopathic pediatric program in the country. Her work at Hamilton has included day-to-day naturopathic care for children in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the Valley. She is also looking into the effects of obesity in these children.
