Clinical Training

The clinical training program provides the essential skills necessary to become a naturopathic physician. Students have the opportunity to:

  • Observe physician role models, including NDs, MDs, DOs, and DCs
  • Gain exposure to a variety of clinical environments, including hospitals, clinics, and mobile medical units
  • Train in effective communication and diagnostic/therapeutic skills and receive immediate feedback
  • Develop and deliver treatment plans based upon the principles of naturopathic medicine
  • Small supervising physician to student ratio

Joni Olehausen, N.D.
Dean of Clinical Education

Dr. Joni Olehausen earned her Doctorate of Naturopathy from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oreg. in 1997. Upon graduation, she completed a one year residency at Tahoma Clinic in Kent, Wash. under the supervision of Jonathan Wright, M.D. and Davis Lamson, N.D.  She remained at the Tahoma Clinic for three years as a staff physician with a family practice and special focus in women’s health, natural hormone therapy, biochemical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy and spiritual/lifestyle counseling. As a medical consultant for Meridian Valley Clinical Laboratory, Dr. Olehausen provided laboratory interpretations for steroid hormones, thyroid hormones and comprehensive stool analysis testing.

Upon moving to Minnesota, Dr. Olehausen maintained a small family practice while serving as the Program Director of Wellness and Fitness through developing individual and corporate wellness programs and developing and providing natural health education throughout Northern and Central Minnesota. In addition, Dr. Olehausen served as Director of a massage school and wellness center, managing the daily administrative duties, teaching basic science courses to massage students and providing natural health coaching to individuals and companies.

Since moving to Arizona, Dr. Olehausen has been an adjunct faculty at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in Tempe and worked as a Medical Extern Coordinator, Medical Program Facilitator, Allied Health Instructor and Academic Coordinator for the International Institute of America. Most recently, Dr. Olehausen served as the Allied Health Instructor and Program Coordinator for RCB Medical Arts High School in Phoenix.
