Naturopathic School of Medicine
What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic Medicine is the art and science of individualized health care. Naturopathic Medicine goes beyond superficial symptoms and gets to the root cause of disease. Naturopathic physicians are primary care doctors, trained in preventive medicine.
What level of degree status does a Naturopathic physician
confirm?
A degree of Naturopathic Physician, supported by graduating
from a federally accredited alternative medical school such
as Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, and by passing
national board exams, is classified as a primary healthcare
practitioner. There are numerous unaccredited alternative medical
schools that offer degrees in Naturopathic Medicine. Graduates
of those programs will not be allowed to sit for board exams
nor will they be able to legally practice medicine. Naturopathic
physicians graduating from Southwest College however, are eligible
to sit for national board exams and legally considered to be
general practice doctors, who can see patients of all ages,
both sexes, suffering from any acute or chronic condition.
How do I select a Naturopathic school or Naturopathic college?
Selecting the naturopathic school or college that is best for
you is a very important decision. The most important aspect
is to make sure that the alternative medical school you choose
for your education is regionally accredited, which will enable
you to sit for national board examinations in naturopathic medicine.
Your medical school should offer high quality academics with
experienced and engaging instructors, a welcoming and helpful
community and a progressive curriculum. The alternative medical
school should also require intensive clinical education, providing
regular patient contacts so students gain the necessary skills
and knowledge to practice alternative medicine.
How many Naturopathic medical schools exist in the U.S?
There are four Naturopathic medical schools
or Naturopathic colleges in the United States recognized by the
Council on Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME) and the US Department
of Education. There is one other naturopathic school in Canada.
