DIscovery Day Featured Guest Speakers, Massages, Acupuncture, Blood Pressure Checks, and Much More for Prospective Students and Community Attendees
Discovery Day, a full day of free activities and sessions designed to educate the community about naturopathic medicine and provide insight for prospective students, was held on Saturday, March 22 at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe. We had a wonderful turnout this year with record-breaking registration numbers! More than 320 people converged on the lively SCNM campus and SCNM Medical Center, exploring everything we had to offer.
Our day began bright and early with people standing in line to register long before the day's events were kicked off with an hour of morning yoga in the perfect Arizona weather.
Prospective students enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about attending naturopathic medical school, hear about career opportunities for NDs, speak with admissions and financial reps, and have their questions answered.
The community attendees were able to experience the benefits of naturopathic medicine with a schedule that included yoga, massages, tea tasting, protein tasting, blood pressure checks, physical adjustments and acupuncture as well as a tour of the SCNM Medical Center.
We had a full line-up of speakers, starting with President/CEO of SCNM, Dr. Paul Mittman, who captivated a room with his inspiring talk, “A New You with Naturopathic Medicine.” The rest of the day was jam-packed with sessions led by SCNM Medical Center physicians:
We are so fortunate to have such a diverse and knowledgeable physician staff at our Medical Center. We also had the honor of having SCNM alumni Dr. Kristen Bishop from Keystone Natural Family Medicine in Mesa, AZ and Dr. Steven Katz from Naturopathic Physicians Group in Scottsdale, AZ, speak at Discovery Day. The duo shared their experiences at SCNM, how they got started after graduation, career options, and advice regarding practicing naturopathic medicine in the real world.
The day was a success! The weather was beautiful, the food was delicious and everyone enjoyed the speakers, activities and tours. We would like to thank everyone who attended, the faculty and alumni speakers, the student volunteers, the staff who worked hard in planning the event, the Facilities department for setting up and breaking down, and everyone else who contributed to its success. We look forward to the next one in November!
