LOVE to TEACH, Hate the Grading?

Posted: Oct 22, 2004

"LOVE TO TEACH, Hate the Grading?

Do you want to educate budding allopathic docotors about naturopathic medicine and teach science at the same time?

Then here is an opportunity for you.

The Princeton Review is the nation’s fastest-growing test preparation organization. We prepare students for the MCAT, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and USMLE.

We are looking for a small group of highly motivated, dynamic instructors to teach our MCAT programs in Tempe. Teaching for The Princeton Review is a fun and rewarding endeavor; you can take pride in knowing you will make a difference in your students’ scores and future educational options. Most people enjoy and appreciate our refreshing approach to standardized tests. But The Princeton Review is not for everyone-we have a very particular energetic and engaging style of teaching. Our courses are relatively short and greatly effective- we are happy to pay this competitive wage to attract qualified applicants.

What does it take to be a Princeton Review instructor?

We don’t require prior teaching experience. However, because there is a limited amount of time that we can spend in our initial teacher training, there are certain skills that you should bring with you.

You should:

  • be an expert in your field (master's level or higher preferred)
  • be a super standardized test-taker (experience with the MCAT is helpful but not necessary)
  • be comfortable in front of a group.
  • be able to control a small group.
  • be able to clearly communicate your ideas.
  • be able to involve everyone in the group.
  • be enthusiastic, dynamic and empathetic.
  • be a team player.

We pay $20/hr to start.

How do you become a Princeton Review instructor?

  • Contact Jennifer Raven, Executive Director via email: jennr@review.com.
  • While we are constantly looking for good teaching candidates, we have immediate positions available.
  • Complete a Princeton Review content exam (we will provide this) in your subject(s) of expertise.
  • We'll ask qualified candidates to come in for an audition. You'll be asked to prepare a 15-minute presentation, on a pre-assigned scientific topic, and to lead a discussion of a practice MCAT question. This allows you to show off your explanatory skills, your command of a group, your dynamic personality, etc.
  • From auditions, we select candidates to participate in our training program. Candidates are hired after successful completion of the training program.

Training

  • There are two trainings: one in November and one in January. We are looking to fill spaces in each training. Training in November will be November 12-14 in Tempe at our office on Rural & University.  Training in January is TBA.
  • Candidates for training are paid a flat training rate of $6.25/hr. Upon successful completion of training, the hourly wage of $20/hr will go into effect.

Commitment

  • We caution prospective teachers to expect several hours a week in prep time the first time they teach. We also offer yearly raises based on performance.
  • Again, if you are interested in teaching for The Princeton Review please e-mail Jennifer Raven, Executive Director at jennr@review.com. Please make sure to include your contact information and real test scores (if you have taken the MCAT) in your email.

Training begins very soon!

Best regards,

Jennifer Raven
