Online Class Registration

In an ongoing effort to improve student services and utilize technology to increase efficiency, the SCNM Student Affairs Department has adopted online course registration for all ND students in March 2011. This new online registration system is administered through SCNM’s online campus Internet solution, MySCNM. This ambitious effort and aggressive timeline for configuration and implementation was lead by College Registrar, Nancy Norman.

Configuration and testing for online registration began in December of 2010 and was beta tested and successfully implemented with for the incoming Winter 2011 class on January 5-8, 2011. Immediately after implementation, Student Affairs administered an online survey to our Winter 2011 class to monitor student satisfaction with the new online registration process. Feedback from our students will be essential for continual improvements to this new service.

Registrar Nancy Norman states that, “through online registration, tasks that previously required time and paper-handling by the Registrar’s office are provided to students in a self-service environment”. It is the hope of the Registrar’s office that the online registration will reduce student visits to save time and effort for the administrative staff. Additional benefits to the new system include:

• Students can register online, with real-time checks for pre-requisites, co-requisites, time conflicts, and many other configurable checks
• Students can register on their timeline from anywhere with Internet access 
• Students can search for selectives using varied criteria 
• The Registrar’s office and the Academic Advisor can control the courses for which various groups of students are allowed to register 
• The Registrar’s office can require students to agree to registration terms and conditions or update personal information before they can add classes
