Research Facilities
SCNM has the facility to support faculty and student research projects. There is adequate administrative area and faculty area with network computers. Basic sciences research area may also be available at our future off-site location housed in the Biomedical Institute, Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona, which is approximately 5 miles from SCNM.
Clinical Facility
Human subjects research projects are conducted at the teaching clinic of SCNM, Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center (SNMC), located at 8010 E. McDowell Road, Scottsdale, Arizona, approximately 3 miles from SCNM. Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center is the largest naturopathic and acupuncture treatment center in the state and in addition to providing community health-care services, operates as the multi-disciplinary, primary-care training facility for SCNM. Naturopathic physicians, licensed acupuncturists, and chiropractors practice alongside conventional medical practitioners to provide natural, integrative medicine.
SNMC is directed by the Chief Medical Officer with the following infrastructure: Chief of Staff, Medical Center Manager, Laboratory Director, Medicinary Director, and 14 other support staff. There are 25 clinicians at SNMC currently, NDs, DCs, MDs, and licensed acupuncturists, and 4 residents in Naturopathic medicine (family practice). On average around 1,200 patients per month receive care at SCNM. The facility is over 5,200 sq. ft. with 16 examination/treatment rooms. The medical center has patient care visits Monday through Saturday with emergency on-call physicians 24-hrs a day, 7 days a week. The rooms have been specifically equipped to provide the various CAM modalities. For example the rooms are equipped and/or supplied with the necessary medical tools for physical medicine (4 rooms), acupuncture (4 rooms), hydrotherapy, intravenous therapy, homeopathic interviews (equipped with video-cameras allowing groups of clinicians/students to observe homeopathic intake simultaneously with prior approval from the patient), minor surgery, and colon hydrotherapy. There are 4 rooms for gynecological, wellness-care visits for women. SNMC also has regularly scheduled emphasis clinics, e.g., women’s wellness days, men’s wellness days, and minor surgery services.
Clinic Laboratory
The laboratory is staffed with medical technologists and nurses with extensive laboratory experience. Through the laboratory, the Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center and SCNM Research Department is able to provide phlebotomy and specimen collection and processing services as well as training for naturopathic medical students and research projects.
Computer and Network Administration
Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences supports computer equipment necessary for the clinical trial project, data collection and management, and software that include SPSS. There are PC computers that are all networked throughout the Southwest College with data systems.
Office
Office spaces are available as described for research trainees, faculty, and administrative support staff at SCNM, SCRI, and for research activities and patient care at SNMC.
