January 12, 2006
Dr. Rick Kirschner, renowned bestselling author, speaker and presentation artist will be coming to Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in February, 2006 as an Adjunct Assistant Professor to teach a newly revised “Mind-Body” course which will be both experiential and interactive in content. At a high level, the course will focus on how to better handle stressful clinical communications by understanding what is meant beyond the actual communication between two parties. Understanding attitudes, behaviors and assumptions in communications and personal interactions is crucial in learning to become a more skillful and persuasive communicator and physician. “I am really excited to be joining the faculty at SCNM”, says Dr. Kirschner. “It’s thrilling to be part of the education of our future doctors.”

Dr. Kirschner has had a very successful and rewarding career, having coauthored the internationally bestselling book “Dealing With People you Can’t Stand” and audio/video all-time bestseller series “How to Deal With Difficult People”. Other accomplishments include the books “Life by Design”, “Dealing With Relatives” and “Love Thy Customer”. He has also contributed to numerous articles for newspapers, magazines and newsletters.
Dr. Rick has roots at SCNM, where he and his wife were early financial donors to the College. He shares that his interest in public speaking began as a third-year student at NCNM (graduated in 1981), during which time he took an extracurricular course of study in the area of Mind-Body medicine. This inspired his offering the course, “The Magical Nature of Communication” to share what he had learned with fellow students. Dr. Kirschner’s background and work as a holistic physician and counselor has lead him to the realization that clear values combined with intentional communication serve as the foundation of healthy relationships and a high quality of life.
Through his career, Dr. Kirschner has developed a unique and highly successful presentation style, combining high energy, comedy, hard-hitting stories, dramatic skits and educating through entertainment to achieve results for his clients and audiences, both nationally and internationally.
As an entrepreneur, Rick has delved into other areas of interest and promotion. He established “Talk Natural Productions”, a media creation and web-content firm. He constructed his own website which is quite artistic and holds a few surprises, see http://www.theartofchange.com. He has a joke page, photo page and music page with his own created MP3s! You can find all of this in the “gallery” section of his website.
Dr. Kirschner possesses a wonderful sense of humor. On April 1, 2003 he issued a press release announcing his retirement and his intention to fulfill his lifetime dream of becoming a national championship landsurfer, complete with a picture of himself in action. See the complete press release at http://www.talknatural.com/AprilOne.html. It’s hysterical, and believe it or not, Dr. Rick received numerous calls and e-mails from folks congratulating him on his retirement and wishing him the best in his future endeavor as a champion landsurfer. Of course, there is no such thing as a landsurfer and it WAS April fools day!
Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine welcomes

Kirschner to its campus and as a member of our
