Welcome to the Family!
It has been a tradition each spring and fall to welcome the new incoming class into the familial fold of SCNM. This could be done with a card or during an all school Synergy meeting, but at SCNM our first quarter students are welcomed with a sometimes-rowdy and always entertaining celebration thrown by the third quarter students.
It is the privilege and honor of the third quarter class to provide an evening of fun and try to out do what was done the time before. The third quarter raises the funds through donations, fund raising, car washes or whatever may help to make the event a success! This Fall, first quarter students were officially initiated into the SCNM family on Friday Sept. 8 with a Caribbean/Pirate-themed party.
The entire school was invited (students, staff and faculty) to join in the celebration in the College’s backyard, which was decked out with tiki torches, shimmering palm trees, lights, food, drinks and a DJ. Catering was provided by the generous, restaurant-owning parents of a student from Ichi Bowl restaurant in Phoenix. Beverages on hand were local brews from Four Peaks Brewery, where Dr. Paul Farnsworth, basic science faculty member at SCNM, serves as Director of Quality Control. While the sun was up guests enjoyed delicious food, music and games of croquet and hula-hoop, but once the sun went down, the rounds of karaoke began and laughter of friends filled the air.
This party has been called a “rite of passage” for students just beginning at SCNM, and if the fun had by all is any indication of the SCNM student body then we will definitely enjoy these celebrations and many others well into the College’s future.
