SCNM’s 2007 Student Government Association
The purpose of the Student Government Association (SGA) is to represent the interests of the naturopathic student body at SCNM. With coordinated efforts, SGA communicates amongst the student body, faculty, administration, Board of Trustees, health practitioners, the public, other schools and professional organizations.
Southwest College is proud to have a strong SGA. Each year, the student body elects a new group of officers, representatives for various organizations and each class elects their class representatives. These individuals serve for a term of one year and meet regularly with administration to discuss specific issues and concerns related to College operations and academics.
Elections for the 2007 Student Government Officers were recently held, and Jennifer Williamson, quarter eight, was elected as SCNM Student Government President. Chere’ Edgar, quarter eight, was elected Vice President, Alexander Schuster, quarter eight, was elected as Treasurer, and Andrea O’Connor, quarter six, was elected Secretary.
Additional SGA positions filled included: Justin Taylor, quarter six, IT Support Associate; Kimberly Caravone, quarter four, NPBOMEX Representative and Charmonique Tims, quarter 10, AzNMA Representative. The position of AANP Representative has not yet been filled.
The start of 2007 will be quite busy for the new SGA officers. An agenda of items has already been created and is waiting to be addressed. These items include:
- Communication with administration about the students’ desire to incorporate a cafeteria and increase the size of the library at SCNM.
- Promotion of SGA to the student population so the importance of the organization is understood and all student concerns are addressed.
- Provide tools for the SGA representatives to keep classmates informed of events and discussions occurring in SGA meetings.
- Establish sensitivity/tolerance training for the student body.
- Establish a system with administration to obtain and provide white boards and markers for the professors and students to use.
- Follow up with the current committee to provide low-cost health insurance to the SCNM student body.
- Follow up on the current committee to establish reciprocal clinical experience with the other naturopathic medical schools.
Currently, there are no events planned for SGA in 2007, but for up-to-date information and to read more about the Student Government Association, please visit http://www.scnmsga.info/. |
