Imhotep Talent Show
June 26, 2006
The Imhotep Circle (IC), one of SCNM’s student run service organizations, is dedicated to assisting the underserved communities in the Phoenix area. Along with bringing speakers to campus to expand the scope of knowledge and exposure for our student body, the organization also brings Naturopathic Medicine to the Phoenix metro area by speaking to different groups about their health and the role Naturopathic Medicine can have in their lives. IC’s events have included a week of on campus events devoted to raising awareness around World AIDS Day, holding rummage sales to raise money for those affected by the floods in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi, as well as raising money to help the children of the Thomas J. Pappas Elementary School attain much needed supplies.
This year, the organization has dedicated all its fundraising efforts to The Medicine Tree. The Medicine Tree is a non-profit HIV/Hepatitis clinic that is focused on empowering the community through health education, conducting evidence-based research in natural medicine, and providing its clients with natural non-toxic treatment methods. Though The Medicine Tree is still in its planning stage, this year’s efforts are expected to help boost it to the next level. The major fundraiser for the year is a talent show showcasing SCNM students and faculty.
The Second Annual Talent Show will be held on June 30th, 2006 at 7:00pm on the SCNM Main Campus at 2140 E. Broadway Rd. Most of the participants in the show are SCNM students and faculty, with a few non-affiliated acts to round out the evening. SCNM’s own local celebrity, Brendan McCarthy, will be the Master of Ceremonies for the event and physician/instructor, Dr. Nick Buratovich will return to the competition free-styling with his famous dulcimer. The participants of the Talent Competition are performing for cash prizes as well as bragging rights. The hallway will be filled with pieces from local artisans who are also donating a portion of their sales to The Medicine Tree.
Other events planned for the evening include a raffle auction, an art exhibit by local artisans, and a bake sale. The items up for raffle include supplements, beauty products, Eric’s Famous Sweet Potato Pie, and a date with a handsome male student! Tickets for the raffles are $1 each or 25 for $20.
Tickets are $10 prior to the day of the event and $12 the day of The Talent Show. Tickets can be purchased at any time from Imhotep Circle members. To get your tickets contact Jennifer Williamson, Imhotep Circle President, at j.williamson@scnm.edu.
