More Construction! New Phlebotomy Lab at SCNM
Summer break at SCNM is often a time for reflection and change. Students are nowhere to be seen on campus and staff and faculty tend to take the opportunity for vacation…all that is except for the vigilant SCNM Maintenance Team. This summer break, the maintenance team undertook the huge project of converting a small classroom only used for lecture into a new Phlebotomy Lab for students.
The conversion took three weeks to complete and involved removing the chairs, desks and computer from the room, pulling up the carpet, scraping off the glue, buffing the floor, painting the North and South walls a soft green and the East and West walls an earthy tan color. The team also had to seal the floor and install a sink (which required plumbing) and new cabinets. Once all this was completed, they were able to move in the IV Chairs and Acupuncture tables in time for the return of the students.
The new phlebotomy “wet” lab will be used for IV Therapy and Acupuncture training. The South side of the room will consist of the IV chairs and the North side of the room will have the acupuncture tables.
George Richards, Director of Facilities, said, “The facilities team has done a great job at remodeling the classroom into a lab. I appreciate all of their efforts and their hard and diligent work. I am proud of this team and very pleased with the look of the new lab.” The facilities team working on this conversion included Maintenance Technicians Hugo Borjas and Gabe Tellez, and Facilities Lead Jeff Enloe.
