January 5, 2006
Written by Patricia Bannon

The Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center has undergone recent renovations which have begun to transform the Scottsdale facility. These improvements will enable the Medical Center to better utilize resources in an effort to provide the highest quality student clinician educational experience and naturopathic healthcare for the public.

The following highlights many of the design, aesthetic and organizational changes:

  • The front desk and reception area have been completely modernized with a new patient check-out window, new workstations, new furniture, new computers and new doorway, all of which are strategically designed and constructed to improve physician, student and patient interaction and flow.
  • The Lab has been totally renovated and moved into a larger space with its own draw station and separate access door as a convenience for patients.
  • Artwork and fabric panels as window coverings have been added throughout the Center.
  • Exam rooms have been reorganized and are now equipped with new garment hooks, magazine racks and mirrors.
  • Student spaces have also been reorganized with each student provided with new office supplies and tools.
  • Whiteboards have been well stocked with new markers, erasers, mountings and cleansers.
  • The student "Fishbowl" (study/work room) has been reorganized and redesigned to make better use of available space. New oblong tables allow easier seating for more students. Storage cubes have been installed so students can store their personal items.
  • The physician space has been redesigned with new file cabinets, shelves, whiteboard and additional storage space.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Christine Girard is pleased with the results of this current round of renovations, assuring the students and the public that Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine is committed to making their Medical Center the best Arizona has to offer patients in Naturopathic medicine and patient/person centered care.

The next phase of renovations will include expansion of the Medicinary and additional exam rooms.
