The Naturopathic Medical Student Association (NMSA) has joined forces with Nature In Action (NIA) to collectively support Naturopathic medical students who attend accredited Naturopathic medical colleges. The NMSA is the student voice, the student networking resource, the student drive and was developed to support Naturopathic medical students.
The NMSA website, http://www.natureinaction.org, is interactive where members can add links, converse in forums, give advice to new graduates, write articles, post events or classified items and much, much, more. The site is also a place where visitors can read more about legislative issues dealing with Naturopathic licensing and support the efforts.
The mission of NMSA is to join all Naturopathic Medical Students into an accessible and expanding network for growth, education, and strength, with the vision of power in numbers. Imagine the future power of Naturopathic medicine if students are standing together and holding hands now.
What is NMSA?
NMSA is the Naturopathic Medical Student Association. The NMSA is in the process of incorporating, under the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), a voice for all Naturopathic medical students at accredited schools in the US and Canada.
NMSA is dedicated to providing a structure for better communication and collaboration amongst Naturopathic students and organizations. In addition, this organization will also serve as representatives to other professional organizations such as The Foundations Project, the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME), the Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges (AANMC), and the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP).
What are the goals of NMSA?
1) Increased collaboration amongst Naturopathic medical students
2) Proliferation of effective projects amongst Naturopathic Medical schools
3) Annual meetings of Naturopathic Medical students
What is the current status of NMSA?
NMSA held their 2nd Annual Conference on Sunday, August 13, 2006 at the
Doubletree Hotel in Portland, OR following the 2006 AANP conference. NMSA has created an initial leadership body and has begun the incorporation process under the AANP. The 3rd Annual Conference will follow the 2007 AANP Conference in Palm Springs, CA in August.
What are the next steps for NMSA?
The first objective is to complete the incorporation process under the AANP. Currently, NMSA has established a website that will begin to aid in connecting all Naturopathic medical schools. Each school chapter is organizing a fundraiser in 2007 to assist with attending the 3rd Annual NMSA Conference.
How is NMSA structured?
NMSA has created an initial structure that will serve as the organizing body. This group may undergo revisions prior to the first elections which will be announced in the near future. If you are interested in joining the organizing committee contact your school coordinator by visiting www.natureinaction.org.
How do I get involved?
NMSA has a variety of openings for leadership and committee positions and need your help to keep the NMSA active. Contact your school coordinator to get involved.
