Thorne, Elsevier & SCNM Team Up
Thanks to a generous donation from Al Czap, owner of Thorne Research, Southwest College students and Faculty will have full access to MD Consult and First Consult. These web-based programs represent a huge collection of fully searchable journals and medical texts to assist students and physicians in clinical decision-making, studying cases and classroom learning.
MD Consult includes 50 leading medical reference books, over 100 full text journals/Clinics/Yearbooks, patient handouts, practice guidelines and “Pizzorno and Murray’s Textbook of Natural Medicine.” Not only will this put a tremendous reference library at our students’ fingertips, it will save them hundreds of dollars on textbook purchases (the Textbook of Natural Medicine costs over $200 alone).
First Consult contains information on over 20,000 disease topics assisting in differential diagnosis, provides clinical “pearls” and laboratory testing to rule in (or out) relevant medical conditions. The program is an exceptional learning tool particularly when studying clinical and laboratory diagnosis.
Until now SCNM students have only been able to access First Consult on campus. With the new license, Southwest College students, faculty and physicians will have individual user names and passwords giving them access to both MD and First Consult on campus or at an off campus clinical site, at home or anywhere they go online to work or study.
We are very excited to share this news with the Southwest College community. Once again, we are leveraging technology to bring the most advanced, in depth tools to our school and continue to lead the field in Naturopathic Medical education.
Thank you again to our friends at Thorne Research for making this possible. As if this wasn’t enough, Thorne also made a donation to enable 2006 graduates to use MD/First Consult throughout their first year of practice.
