On Friday October 8th Dr. Paul Mittman, President and CEO welcomed Congressman Harry Mitchell who spoke to over 200 guests attended the Ribbon Cutting and official opening of the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences new Medical Center. The new Medical Center was located on the SCNM main campus in Tempe, and is the home of the largest naturopathic medical clinic in the Southwest.
Following Congressman Mitchell's comments, Tempe City Councilwoman Onnie Sekerjian welcomed the new Medical Center to Tempe. Housed in a 42,000 square foot office building the SCNM Medical Center features 27 state-of-the-art exam rooms, six high-tech classrooms, a hydrotherapy suite, an IV suite and relaxation gardens.
Rounding the opening ceremony Dr. Christine Girard, Executive Vice President of Clinical and Academic Affairs and recently voted Physician of the Year at the AANP annual convention welcomed the community to join SCNM in celebrating the new healthcare facility.
“It’s an exciting time to be pursuing a career in naturopathic medicine,” said Dr. Paul Mittman, president of SCNM. “There is an unprecedented rise in obesity and autism in children, an epidemic of cancer, heart disease and diabetes in adults. With lifestyle factors, particularly diet, lack of exercise and stress, at the root of so many conditions, patients seek more and need more, than just drugs and surgery. At SCNM, we’re proud to be training a new generation of physicians who combine the best of Western biomedicine with patient-centered, evidence-based alternative therapies.”
Currently, the Medical Center serves over 20,000 patients each year. The team of physicians which includes naturopathic doctors, chiropractic physicians, medical doctors, and Oriental medical doctor, acupuncturists, colon hydro therapists and a psychologist treat patients suffering from:

• Children’s Illnesses including ADHD and Autism
• Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome
• Obesity and Nutritional Disorders
• Cardiovascular Disease
• Women’s Health Issues
• Pain Relief including Back Pain, Migraines and more
“Our students begin clinical training day one,” said Kimberly Volk, ND, RN, Director of Clinical Operations at Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center. “We’re very excited to offer students a new Medical Center that will enhance their learning experience and prepare them for a rewarding career in naturopathic medicine.”
The Medical Center is also home to the largest Natural Medicinary in Arizona, which offers a wide variety of vitamins, nutritional supplements, reading material and herbal/homeopathic medicine.
