Details: In the third of a continuing series of free lectures hosted by the AzNMA and presented by SCNM, alum Dr. Laryn Callaway will discuss “Anxiety and Depression.” Dr. Callaway is the Founder & CEO of an organic food company, has a private practice in Scottsdale specializing in women’s health and preventive medicine, and is a 1998 graduate of SCNM.   more »

Southwest Conference on Botanical Medicine

Date: Saturday, April 8th - Sunday April 9th
Location: SCNM

Details: The eleventh annual Southwest Conference on Botanical Medicine is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 8 and 9 at our College. The conference emphasizes botanical therapies for chronic disease and also features herb walks in the desert. The conference cost is $265. This fee covers all lectures, herb walks (except admission to the botanical gardens) and the panel discussion Saturday evening. Continuing education credits are available for nurses, naturopathic physicians, acupuncturists and pharmacists. Speakers include Dr. Patricia Gaines, Dr. Yong Deng, Dr. Mary Bove and Dr. Deborah Frances. Call 800-252-0688 to register or to find out more information. I am exceedingly pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Michael Robinson as the new Dean of Students here at SCNM.  Michael took office February 28. Michael most recently served as the director of student services at Argosy University and has over 13 years of experience directing student activities, student services, student and staff development and campus involvement.  more»

Announcing the Start of SCNM’s Skill Center—Directed Skill Development Laboratories (DSDL)

Dr. BuratovichWednesday, March 1, was the inaugural DSDL laboratory. These laboratories will be held on Wednesday afternoons from 12 -1 p.m. in the physical medicine lab, room 4.
The Mission states that the DSDL will support and advance the clinical skill development of Southwest students through a directed laboratory learning experience. In accordance with naturopathic principles, the DSDL will support the principle of First Do No Harm by supporting and advancing competent professional standards for safe clinical skill development. It will also support Find and Treat The Cause by supporting and advancing competent professional standards for diagnosis and treatment through enhanced learning of examination procedures and application of various therapeutic modalities.   more »

Salina BazurtoSalina Bazurto was recently promoted to Marketing and PR Manager in the Advancement Department. Salina became part of our SCNM family in 2004 as Assistant Registrar and moved ten months later into the position of Admissions/Marketing Specialist. Salina obtained her B.S. in Marketing from Northern Arizona University in 2001 and received her M.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Phoenix in 2005.   more »

Sleeping Like a Baby?

A common expression, but what does it really mean? Most babies fall quickly into a deep sleep, but wake every two to three hours to nurse. Many of us sleep in a pattern similar to this, but this is not a normal sleep pattern for an adult. Older children and adults require sound, uninterrupted sleep for optimal health.
