Adoption

Steven Smith, Facilities, and his wife Joy finalized their adoption of 5 year-old Cheyenne. This is their third adoption in the last year.

Steven and his wife also celebrated their 25th anniversary on March 6 and they went to Disneyworld!

Engagement

Ana Ayala-Cuellar, Financial Aid Administrator, and Hugo Borjas, Facilities Service Request Coordinator, announced their engagement. They will be married on Aug. 30, 2008 in Arizona.

Staff Senate

Employee Recognition Committee

Jody Durham, Admissions Representative, has actively taken on the role of the SCNM Employee Recognition Chair. Her committee consists of Linda Brozewicz, Kerri Weiss, Patti Castille, and Nancy Norman.

The committee has met once to discuss plans for 2008 and how to recognize employees throughout the year for the hard work and dedication to SCNM. Each quarter, ballots will be distributed to vote for the "Employee of the Quarter" and at the end of the year there will be an "Employee of the Year".

Speaking Engagement

On April 15th, after a 10 year hiatus, Robert M. Wilbanks IV will be making his return as a genealogy speaker to an organization in north Scottsdale. His presentation will be on a topic that made him well known in the genealogical community around the state of Arizona in the 1990s, and was the foundation for his book published in 1993. 

The book and presentation, entitled “United States Military Records: A General Overview”, discusses the use of U.S. Military Records as a beneficial resource in the ongoing search in family history research.

The Family History Society of Arizona (www.fhsa.org), which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year, is an organization dedicated to helping genealogists learn about the various techniques and resources of family history research. There are seven different Chapters that meet monthly at different locations and dates around the Valley.

Robert will be speaking to the Paradise Valley Chapter on April 15th at the Senior Center at Via Linda, 10440 N. Via Linda, Room 6, Scottsdale. A short beginner’s presentation begins at 6:15pm with the regular meeting, and Robert’s presentation, beginning at 7:00pm.
