Stan Kalson Holistic Endowed Scholarship Fund
On December 28th Mr. Stan Kalson present a check for $20,000 to Dr. Paul Mittman to initiate the Stan Kalson Holistic Endowed Scholarship Fund gifted by the International Holistic Center, Inc.
Mr. Kalson is a well known therapist, educator, and creator of the Holisic H.E.L.P. Resource directory as well as the originator of the Arizona Networking News, which after being sold became the AZNET News.
Stan Kalson attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a degree in Sociology and Psychology. From there he went to USC and received an advanced degree in education and taught school for several years in California. He became involved with the William Glasser Institute and was involved in the Schools Without Failure concept.
That led him to question his reasons for public school teaching and in 1972, he left teaching and pursued his adventures in the holistic health field. He opened a health food restaurant, Earth Foods, which created more interest in healthy living. Returning to school he learned a body-mind-spirit therapy called Polarity Therapy. From this experience he traveled to South America, which led him to work with a world famous naturopath, Dr. Ann Wigmore in Boston, Massachusetts. As her public relations coordinator he traveled to 50+ cities in the U.S.
One of the cities he visited was Phoenix, Arizona. Many people asked him to return with his partner, Carol Thomas. Carol and Stan settled in Phoenix in 1977 and established the International Holistic Center, Inc. They wrote a book called Holistic H.E.L.P. Handbook (sold 35,000 copies). From this experience he was lead to teach in Australia and Hawaii. Stan spent almost a year abroad and returned to live in Hawaii which was an important event in his career.
In 1981, he returned to Phoenix and published the holistic newspaper, Arizona Networking News, which he sold in 1986 and it still exists today under the ownership of Joanne Tedesco. In 1984, to further promote holistic health, he organized a group who purchased a resort in Northern Arizona which was sold in 1989. He returned to Phoenix and started the Holistic H.E.L.P. Resources (40,000 copies/annual) which he still publishes today. Click Here to view.
For many years Stan was a coordinator for the successful Phoenix Holistic Health Expo and co-founded the Holistic Health Gathering, which is now operated by Joanne Tedesco in cooperation with SWIHA.
He has received many awards for his dedicated service. On May 1, 2010 he was named Holistic Man of the Year by the Arizona Homeopathic and Integrative Medical Association. He has been instrumental in lobbying the Arizona legislators to allow consumers to have choices for alternative healing modalities. He has supported the following programs: Food for the Holidays, Scholarships to study alternative healing, Dental Program, surplus bread distributed to the community, and many media presentations on holistic health.
He has been a teacher, therapist, and friend to all who seek holistic health information. He has researched the best health products that are sold in health food stores and eagerly shares this information with consumers.
