Preparing for Naturopathic Medical School

For admission into most Naturopathic medicine programs, students must have completed three (3) years of pre-medical training and earned a Bachelor’s degree and then demonstrate that they possess the internal qualities essential to becoming Naturopathic physicians. These include the ability to synthesize information gathered from a history, physical exam and appropriate laboratory testing, to reach a comprehensive patient understanding that includes the medical diagnosis, identifies the root cause and the holistic nature of disease. Further, students must be able to work with the medical community and other health care practitioners to provide patients the best of conventional and natural treatments, according to their individual needs.

Healthcare is changing and patients need to be seen as whole persons, not just a list of symptoms. Patients want time with their physicians; they want control over their own health; they want therapies that address underlying causes rather than simply alleviating symptoms. Naturopathic medicine is the health care for a changing world.
