Yoga and Zumba on Campus Free for Students!

SCNM is thrilled to welcome 4 new classes that are open to the SCNM community! We are lucky enough to have a yoga room in which we can support classes like this as well as outside workshops and selective classes. Several students utilize this room on a daily basis for meditation, self reflection, workouts, dancing, stretching and even studying (if it’s during finals, no room is off limits)!

Tuesday's 8:00 – 9:00 AM:     Flow Vinyasa with Courtney Chalfant

Wednesday's 5:15 – 6:15 PM:     Gentle Journey with DeAnna Smothers 

Wednesday’s 6:30 – 7:30 PM:     Zumba Dance Fitness with Cylinda Haynes (*Just Added)

Thursday's 1:00 – 2:00 PM:     Stretch, Relax & Restore Yoga with DeAnna Smothers

Flow Vinyasa

This intermediate level flow class is joyful, peaceful and can help you lose weight and reduce stress. It will get you calm, sweating and enjoying sun salutations with a groove. Each class introduces a variety of poses designed to build strength and stamina. This is a faster placed class to keep the heart rate up. This class has a fun spirit and is dedicated to creativity. Great for toning the abs, bottom and thighs.

Gentle Journey

A slow peaceful class with great music.  It fulfills the needs for those looking for a quiet and peaceful yoga experience combined with a highly effective workout. In this class you will stretch, detoxify, sweat and build strength at your own pace! This class is great for all ages and fitness levels.

Zumba Dance Fitness

Zumba fitness is a Latin dance based class that fuses dance and fitness together. This class is a fun way to get cardio and a small amount of strengthening in an enjoyable way. This is a high-energy class with Latin, afro-beats, and pop music. 

Stretch, Relax & Restore

A totally de-stressing and relaxing experience with therapeutic music. Stretching and breathing with most postures on the floor. You will use comfortable bolsters and blankets to help you relax. The class is designed to stretch the body, calm the mind and get centered within. This soothing practice allows for solitude and meditation. Great for everyone. A peaceful time of rest & self-care to enjoy the rest of your day and evening.

Instructor Bios

DeAnna Smothers ERYT-500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher Highest Level)

She loves her students and enjoys making each class a time for students to experience deep peace as they learn. Her studio classes are attended by all ages and fitness levels and are enjoyed for their ability to de-stress, peace out and get sweaty.

Courtney Chalfant: ERYT-500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher Highest Level)

People who know Courtney call her “Sunshine.” She loves creating an experience where mental calmness, physical strength and spiritual presence come together to create inner-peace.

Cylinda Haynes: Zumba Instructor – Level 1

I have be dancing since I was 4 years old. Currently I have had opportunity to be a Zumba instructor for 2 years and look forward to leading dance fitness classes for SCNM students.

This is a wonderful opportunity to take an hour out of your day to give to yourself. Self care allows you to perform better in any activity as giving to yourself allows you to give to others, it’s a win win! Come check out a class today
