Association of Native American Medical Students

The Association of Native American Medical Students gives students insight into traditional Native American medicine as well as provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and information between naturopathic medicine and Native American communities.

Founding members include: Jina Ethelbah, a White Mountain Apache; Lauren Bernal, a Cherokee; and Carmen Jones and Annette Hobi, both from the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

At previous events, we have had Native American guests share traditional stories and songs, discuss spirituality of music and its healing powers, and dance social dances from the Choctaw, White Mountain Apache and Northern Plains tribes.

We plan on offering “Exploring Indigenous Foods and Their Healing Powers” and “The Spiritual Journey of The Medicine Wheel” workshops to students and starting a native seed heirloom garden for the community.

We invite you to join our group to learn how Native American and naturopathic medicine align.
